the newport series - #2

the aroma of coffee

she sits down at a table in the plain old diner
he sits down just opposite her
they look up and prepare to share each other
in a cup of coffee

he's just an ordinary guy
she's what you would call a plain jane
yet as they speak
the tiny horses on the wallpaper
run to watch and listen
their eyes glisten

beauty is seen in its most majestic form
they are framed in affection
no candles necessary
GQ or Cosmo might disagree
but who said they were right?

he winks his left eye slightly
she wrinkles her nose in response
a bond stronger than the aroma of coffee
is at work here
