Not Quite Ready

by mckavanaugh

I’m not quite ready to take you home
I’m not quite ready to take that on
I’m not quite ready to let you inside
I’ve been there before - I’ve already tried

People can be so cruel
When you give them your heart
There’s no warning it’s died
It just falls apart
The weight of the world descends
And you don’t know where you stand
The smoke clears and your deepest fears:
Broken heart on your hands

I’m not quite ready to take you home
I feel something good here going on
I’m not quite ready to say goodnight
Let’s stay out until the morning light

This may be my second chance
One more reason to live
Time to forget the past
Maybe in time – to forgive
To smell the clean, fresh air and
Count the stars in the sky
I think I can see them all there
When I look in your eyes

I’m not quite ready to take you home
I’m not quite ready to say so long
I’m not quite ready to say goodbye
I’m not quite sure of the reason why
I’m not quite ready
I’m not quite ready
I’m not quite ready to let go of you
